How to play

Play Black against the computer’s White discs on an 8×8 board. Each move must enclose one or more consecutive opposing discs horizontally, vertically or diagonally; all enclosed discs flip to your color. A side with no legal move automatically passes. When neither side can move, the player with more discs wins, or the game is drawn. Undo restores the position before your last move, including later computer replies. Wins, draws and losses are saved by difficulty in this browser only; clearing site data removes them.

Controls

Choose Easy or Standard and start. You play Black and move first. Click or tap a legal square. Keyboard: arrows move focus; Enter or Space places a disc; Z or Backspace undoes a turn; P or Esc pauses or resumes; R restarts. Hiding the page or switching away from the window pauses automatically; resume manually.

A little tip

Do not chase only the largest immediate flip. Corner discs cannot easily be taken back. Before placing a disc, check whether it gives the opponent a corner, then compare edges and your options next turn.

Read the corners before counting flips

A large immediate flip is not always the strongest move. Corners have no outside square for an opponent to bracket, making them easier to keep. Nearby squares can also hand a corner to the other side. Use the legal-move hints, then compare how many options each side has afterward.

Automatic passes and the final count

You play Black first and the computer plays White. If a side has no legal move, it automatically passes and the other side can continue. The game ends when neither side can move, even if empty squares remain. The side with more discs wins; equal counts are a draw. Undo returns to the position before your last move. Results are saved by difficulty in this browser only and do not sync across devices.
